FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The main preparation for TriWave MD is to arrive without makeup or lotions on the skin. Eye makeup is not a problem as your eyes will be covered during the session. If you arrive with significant makeup foundation on we may need to reschedule your appointment. If you are treating another body area, such as the chest or back, simply arrive without lotions on the skin preferably. At the end of your session we will apply a light sunscreen to the treatment zone and you can if you wish apply makeup immediately after a TriWave MD procedure. 

We may recommend that some medications be held for a few days before a light-based treatment session, so please let us know all of the prescription medications you are taking. Photosensitizing medications include primarily: Lithium, phenothiazine, antipsychotics, and certain antibiotics such as doxycycline, tetracycline, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, ofloxacin and trimethoprim.

Utilizing the correct wavelengths of light is critical in achieving optimum results. The vast majority of at home use devices purchased from the internet lack the power output and quality bulbs that can deliver the 415nm, 633nm & 830nm wavelengths. Their power output also frequently degrades quickly due to the inexpensive materials used in their manufacturing. 415nm, 633nm and 830nm are the ONLY clinically proven and certified wavelengths of light that can provide cellular regeneration and photo-biomodulation processes.

Semi-permanent makeup and tattoos should not be affected by TriWave MD.

No, there is no pain involved with a TriWave MD session. No numbing is required. You should expect to be quite comfortable. 

The number of sessions required will vary according to your goals and the severity of any skin conditions you may have.

Active Acne, Eczema and Psoriasis would benefit from 2 to 3 sessions per week initially until the inflammation has calmed down, at which point sessions can become less frequent for maintenance.

If your goal is anti-aging we suggest a session once or twice a week initially then decreasing to monthly sessions as needed to maintain the maximum benefits. 

Standard session times are 20 minutes. If the TriWave is being done as an add on to another procedure such as medical microneedling then the session time is reduced to 10 minutes. These fairly short treatment times are possible due to the high power of the TriWave MD system.

Yes, TriWave MD can be performed on skin that has a suntan. We will not however perform light based treatments on sunburned skin.

There are no post procedure restrictions after TriWave MD. As alwats we recommend protecting your skin from UV radiation by wearing sunscreen routinely. You can exercise right after your treatment session. 

Not at all. TriWave MD contains no UV radiation. In fact, LED light therapy such as TriWave MD is often used to TREAT early forms of skin cancer in a process called PDT (photodynamic therapy).

LED treatments are considered safe for women who are pregnant and/or breastfeeding. 

You will be wearing eye protection throughout your treatment session to ensure your eye safety.

LED and Near Infrared light have been used safely in pediatric populations, so there is no age limit for these treatment sessions. Minors will be required to have parental consent prior to the treatment series.
