Skin Tightening and Smoothing- Face and Neck

The key to turning back the clock on fine lines and wrinkles is the restoration of lost collagen and elastin. At renew medispa we have many options from which you can choose.

All Natural Options

Many collagen stimulating procedures do not require injection of any products and are minimally invasive or non-invasive. Some even do not have any significant 'downtime'.

LONG Lasting

Once new collagen and elastin are created, the benefits can last for years with proper skin care and sun protection. Nothing in aesthetics is 'permanent', but maintenance can be fairly easy and affordable for most.

versatility

Depending on your particular needs, budget and tolerance for downtime, there are collagen stimulating treatments available to meet your goals!

"Who said 'growing old gracefully' meant 'doing nothing'? Regenerative procedures restore collagen that has been lost due to many factors such as age, sun exposure and lifestyle. We are in essence 'softening the blows' of ageing, and this contributes to us looking and feeling our best which has been shown to improve mood, confidence and quality of life." - Lisa Vuich, MD

There are many options available to restore lost collagen and protect the collagen you have. Tolerance for downtime is one of the most important factors to consider when selecting a treatment protocol. Watch our video for more information!

What is Collagen and why do we lose it?

Collagen is the most common protein in the human body. It primarily acts as structural support for many structures including your organs and skin structures, tendons, muscles, ligaments, and bones.

As we age, collagen production in our bodies declines which can lead to issues such as stiff or sore joints and weak bones, tendons, or ligaments. For skin, collagen loss is seen in the forms of thinning skin, fine lines, wrinkles and skin laxity (looseness). Our fibroblasts continue to work effectively until around the age of 35 at which point collagen production starts to decline. For some the decrease is slow, while for others it can seem to be shockingly rapid. This decline in production leads to a loss of firmness and an increase in wrinkles and sagging. Many variables affect how much collagen we have and the rate at which we lose it. These variables include most notably: current age, hormonal changes, genetics/ethnicity, smoking history, cumulative exposure to UV light (sun exposure), physical/mechanical stress, emotional stress, nutritional status (vitamin or mineral deficiencies, excess sugar consumption), hydration status, skin care regimen.

Restoring lost collagen

There are many types of approaches to stimulate collagen production in the skin, which will result in a smoother, softer and in some cases tighter appearance of the treated regions.
There is no one 'single best' approach. In most cases, a combination of methods will have the most impressive results over time. Consider trying different types of services to see what works best for you!
Tolerance for downtime, size and location of the region to be treated, personal preferences and budget are the three top variables that will guide recommendations for your treatment course.

Stimulaton with Injectables

Various types of dermal fillers, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), and the use of PDO threads which can be inserted into and beneath the skin, stimulate the formation of new collagen in the regions targeted.

Microinjury

Procedures such as medical micro-needling, micro-needling with heat (often generated by radiofrequency energy), laser skin resurfacing, low intensity shockwave therapy (also called acoustic wave therapy), and micro-focused ultrasound (Ultherapy) are some of the most popular methods to induce micro-injury, to which the skin responds with new collagen and elastin formation.

Other Stimulation and Support

Low level laser facials, Therapeutic light stimulation (ex: LED, near infrared (NIR) such as TriWave MD), Topical medical grade skincare (anti-oxidants, retinol, growth factors), Possibly collagen supplementation, Healthy diet/hydration/exercise; UV protection; No cigarette smoking

NEW FOR 2023: TRI-WAVE MD

BENEFITS

20 minute Sessions
No special preparation
No Downtime
Tri-Wave MD is the most advanced LED system used for photodynamic treatments of face and body. It uses three different wavelengths, delivering them simultaneously to achieve desired results. Treatments with the LED system can help rejuvenate and improve skin from inside and out. It minimizes signs of aging and skin damage, while addressing other issues such as active acne, scars, and dark spots.

ADVANCED LED SYSTEM

The LED panel of Tri-Wave MD is designed to provide treatments for larger body areas and high-intensity focused protocols. The three different wavelengths emitted by the panel have clinical evidence proving their effectiveness when it comes to photobiomodulation therapy. These wavelengths are blue 415nm, red 633nm, near-infrared 830nm.

Photobiomodulation is a process where light energy targets cells, activating photomechanical changes in the cellular structure. The procedure enhances the repair of skin tissues and cells while reducing inflammation and redness. It can also improve other processes of skin such as blood circulation and cell renewal.

Blue LED light, in particular, can target acne-causing bacteria. Red LED light stimulates skin rejuvenation including faster collagen production. Near-infrared LED light provides anti-aging benefits and anti-inflammatory benefits.

Questions?
We've Got You Covered!

We offer free consultations for exactly this reason! We will help you sort through and prioritize your concerns and goals, your personal preferences, your tolerance for downtime, and how soon you need to see results in order to help guide you towards the procedure(s) most likely to give you the “Wow” results you are looking for. We offer both comprehensive ‘head to toe’ consultations, or you may opt for a more limited consultation specific to a particular region or concern.

At home micro-needling is a tricky business. First of all, there is the challenge of keeping your instrument free of bacteria which is not easy. Second, many of the marketed micro-needling rollers have poor quality needles and can actually cause more damage and scarring. The results if any achieved with home devices do not come close to what can be achieved with true medical grade devices which also employ single use sterile tips to ensure both safety and ideal needle condition at every single treatment. Having this service done at a medical spa which also has platelet rich plasma preparation available can also significantly boost your results per procedure.

There is no “one best” skin care regimen. In general, some of the most helpful active ingredients will include anti-oxidants such as Vitamin C, a high grade Retinol, and Sun Protection. There are many different “actives” that are botanical as well. Based on your skin type and skin condition we can help you to design a program that makes the most sense for you and your goals. Ask about our ‘Recommended Skin Care’ sheets which educate about our most popular skin care products based on skin problems and concerns- those are a great starting point.

Using what’s known as fractional laser resurfacing, the SmartSkin laser treats the skin in “micro-columns”. Each treatment micro column receiving the precise amount of laser energy needed to vaporize the aged skin, while also stimulating new collagen growth from the surrounding untreated skin. Over time, this will build up the support structures (collagen and elastin) of your skin resulting in a younger and smoother looking appearance. This fractionated approach to laser skin resurfacing is substantially safer than the older CO2 laser devices which were often used in a ‘fully ablative’ mode which was effective BUT had increased risk of scarring and infection.

Watch our video dedicated to TriWave MD and you will understand!

It is not feasible to list all of the costs of all of the various procedures available to restore lost collagen. We are happy to provide pricing information in person or by phone if you have a specific procedure in mind, or at the time of a consultation if you are considering multiple treatment options.

Not at all! There is no age at which fibroblast skin cells stop responding to injury, though they may take longer to do so. Older skin will have more collagen loss, which will also potentially impact the number of treatments you will need to achieve your desired result. For those who are younger, starting collagen stimulating procedures early will help protect the collagen you have and restore what you would have otherwise lost due to the ageing process.
