Pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, ageing, certain medical conditions and even trauma from surgery can result in a woman’s vagina losing its youthfulness and elasticity. The resulting dryness and loss of muscle tone can lead to unsatisfying or painful sex, as well as difficulty with bladder control. Although the Femiwave handpiece is not inserted fully intravaginally, it does treat the vaginal introitus (entrance) which is where the most critical tissue is that is responsible for muscle tone and sensation, as well as urinary continence. 

• No numbing is required. A slight stinging sensation can sometimes be felt, but overall the procedure is quite comfortable.

• Femiwave was created and tested using standardized protocols to ensure patient safety and optimum results. Clinical studies conducted over 15 years have shown low intensity shockwave therapy to be safe and without significant side effects. More recent clinical studies in women treated for a variety of gynecologic concerns have not identified any significant side effects or risks to this treatment.

• No, there are no restrictions post procedure. You can even have sexual intercourse the same day.

• You can begin to notice benefit after even one session, but a series of 6 sessions is recommended. The sessions can be performed every 7 to 10 days. Full benefit can continue to develop over the course of about 90 days from the time of the last session as the cells continue to respond to the stimulus of the treatment.

• Femiwave sessions can be repeated every 7 to 10 days for the initial series.
• Your current health, age, medical conditions, and hormonal balance will all play a role in the longevity of your results. For many individuals the results can last as long as 2 years. Because the treatment is all natural and without any known risks, it is safe and recommended to get periodic maintenance treatments to ensure long lasting results.
• For many women a good plan would be to expect to do a maintenance session once or twice a year. This will vary of course depending on the severity of initial symptoms, and individual variation in tissue response.

• Femiwave is not recommended for women who are pregnant or actively trying to become pregnant. It should also not be performed if there is an active infection in the treatment zone (until the infection has cleared).

• Femiwave can be combined with any other women’s wellness procedures.
• The O-shot is a safe, drug-free, and non-surgical treatment which also improves female sexual health. Using isolated growth factors found naturally in your own platelets, the O-shot increases blood flow to the vagina and clitoris and stimulates biological production of collagen and elastin to heighten genital sensitivity, improve lubrication, and reduce or eliminate urinary incontinence.  
• In general, we will likely recommend combination therapy for women whose symptoms are more advanced in severity. Although the O-shot does require a blood draw and a few injections, we are experts at making this procedure as free from discomfort as possible!

Femiwave is performed by one of our female nurses, or by Johanna- our lead medical assistant who has been specially trained to deliver this service according to the protocol recommeded by Dr. Lisa Vuich. The protocol we use is based specifically on the clinical studies conducted specifically on women using low intensity shockwave therapy.
